- Scent samples are necessary to steer people to the booth. This is a flee market and not a craft fair. We attribute most of our success here to the scent samples turning people who were just walking past right into our booth. Some even went past and turned around after smelling the scent. They say get the candle under peoples noses, and this is how we're doing it. It works! If she's walking by and is old enough to have money, she gets a card with a scent on it. And yes, I said she. I'll split a crowd of 10 people to get to the women.
- The almost burned to the bottom jar is a great aid in showing people that the candles burn clean and smell good all the way to the bottom. We show everyone the jar that comes into the booth. Almost everyone is impressed and can relate to candles that have the black ring, burn right down the middle, and don't retain their scent after a few burns. This jar convinces most that our candles are better than the competition.

Flee market lessons
Two main things we've learned so far are:
Flee Market
This picture shows the side of our booth containing the majority of our candles. Most of the Jars are on the shelves, with a few open on the table, The votives are stacked up against the wall in there six-pack boxes. We have one Pie (key lime) open on the table. The catalog is opened up to the centerfold to show the rest of the pies off. Near the door is the box to sign up for the free drawing. We're not really pushing this much, as everyone gets a business card with a scent sample and the web page on it. The two wicker baskets have individually bagged votives. The board on the wall has show special pricing vs. the retail price. (the picture isn't a good enough quality to the the writing) and the sticker showing we take credit cards. The silver and red cylinders you see are gift boxes we found at the dollar store that fit the jars. We are selling them for the same price to customers who purchase a jar.
Flee Market
This picture shows one side of our booth. The shelf has jars on it with the holiday jar on the top with its box. The table has melts in front with some of the plug in melt warmers lined up along the wall. On the wall are six outlets that I made with some of the tart warmers plugged in and lit. One has a scent in it making our booth smell better than any other in the building (an opinion gathered from other vendors). Also on the table is a few Simmer pots, car air fresheners, a few votives, and a Bella Bun. The wreath and sleigh were crafted by a friend, and were also for sale. To the right of the plug ins on the wall is a candle that's burned all but the last half inch. We use this to show that the candles burn virtually soot free, they burn evenly with the two wicks, and they smell the same all the way to the bottom.
New Blog!
I'm hoping to keep this up with the progress we're making in our candle business. Posts with our events and ideas will follow.
